Injuries are the leading cause of death for the first half of life, with motor vehicle accidents, falls and assaults accounting for the most trauma.

At 91大神 (BWH), our Level 1 Trauma Center is working to reduce that statistic. We provide life-saving care for the most seriously injured patients. Each year, our emergency department treats more than 8,000 traumatically injured patients.

Surgeons in our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery are fellowship trained with subspecialty expertise in plastic surgery, surgical critical care and burn surgery. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team which includes emergency physicians, critical care physicians, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists, nurses, wound care experts, dieticians, social workers and rehabilitation specialists. Our trauma specialists tailor care to the individual needs of each patient.

We provide services for acute and critically ill patients鈥攆rom treatment for a gunshot wound to multidisciplinary care for a pregnant patient following an accident. Our 24-hour trauma transfer line enables immediate transfer of patients.
